Obesity is a complex, chronic condition characterized by an excessive accumulation of body fat that presents a risk to health. Obesity not only affects physical health but also has significant impacts on mental and emotional well-being, and may contribute to conditions such as depression and anxiety.

Obesity is a multifactorial disease influenced by a combination of genetic, behavioural, environmental, and metabolic factors. It often requires a comprehensive approach to treatment. The struggle to maintain a healthy weight can be a lifelong challenge for many, and significant weight loss cannot always be achieved through diet and exercise alone.

Current research in obesity focuses on better understanding the biological mechanisms driving weight gain and the development of more effective treatments. Studies are exploring new medications, combination therapies, and innovative approaches like metabolic surgery and personalized nutrition plans. Researchers are also investigating the role of hormones, the microbiome, and genetics in obesity, aiming to create treatments that are more tailored to individual needs. 

Today, obesity is managed through a combination of dietary changes, increased physical activity, behavior modification, and, when necessary, medical or surgical interventions. However, these methods are not always effective for everyone, highlighting the need for ongoing research. By participating in clinical trials, individuals can contribute to the development of new therapies that could provide more effective and long-lasting results.

Momentum Clinical Research has been at the forefront of obesity research, conducting a range of studies aimed at understanding and treating this complex condition. Our work is focused on identifying and developing novel therapies that can help those affected by obesity achieve better health outcomes.

Recent research has included studies focusing on:

• Investigating an easier more convenient oral treatment of GLP-1RA to reduce body weight, improve glucose control and lead to improved cardiovascular outcomes for people living with obesity or overweight.
• Comparing a potential new weight loss treatment with Tirzepatode (Mounjaro®) in people with Type 2 Diabetes and a BMI of 30 or above.
• Testing the efficacy of a new investigational weight loss medication for people living with obesity or overweight and related health complications and where previous modifications to diet have been unsuccessful.
• Evaluating the impact on weight loss when combining a weight loss medication with a muscle-building treatment, compared to the effects of each medication used individually.
• An investigational treatment, administered via a prefilled syringe, intended to facilitate weight loss and prevent weight-related complications in people living with overweight and obesity and a history of associated health conditions.
