Cardiology

With over 20 years of experience in conducting clinical trials in cardiology, we’ve forged strong, lasting partnerships with global sponsors looking to advance treatments in this field. Our recent research studies have focused on developing new treatments to reduce blood pressure in patients with uncontrolled hypertension despite treatment with currently available medications, investigating a potentially safer treatment for atrial fibrillation, exploring alternatives for statin-intolerant patients, and a treatment to prevent the progression to heart failure in patients who are at higher risk of heart disease.

Overview

Cardiology is a vital field of medicine dedicated to understanding and treating conditions that affect the heart and blood vessels.  Cardiovascular conditions encompass a variety of issues, including coronary artery disease (where blood flow to the heart is restricted), heart failure (when the heart struggles to pump blood effectively), arrhythmias (irregular heartbeats), and hypertension (high blood pressure). These conditions can lead to symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, and dizziness, and in severe cases, they may result in heart attacks, strokes, or other life-threatening events.

Treatment progress

Current cardiology conditions are treated through a combination of lifestyle modification, medications, medical procedures, and surgical interventions, depending on the severity and nature of the disease.

Clinical research plays a critical role in advancing the treatment of these conditions with current and upcoming research exploring innovative ways to diagnose, treat, and prevent these conditions or their complications.

Studies are investigating new medications, advanced imaging techniques, and minimally invasive procedures to improve patient outcomes. Additionally, research is focusing on the role of genetics and lifestyle factors in heart disease, aiming to personalise treatments and develop preventive strategies.

Our history

Momentum Clinical Research has been at the forefront of cardiology research, conducting a range of studies aimed at improving the treatment and understanding of cardiovascular conditions.

Previous studies

Recent research has included studies looking at:

  • Innovative treatments for high lipoprotein (‘bad’ lipids) [MN1] levels, a risk factor for heart disease that is not easily managed by current methods like statins.
  • New medication intended to reduce blood pressure with fewer side effects in adults with uncontrolled and resistant hypertension.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of a new blood thinner treatment intended to stop the formation of blood clots in people with atrial fibrillation and with a reduced risk of bleeding.
  • Clinical trials focused on patients who are intolerant to statins, evaluating investigational treatments that can better manage cholesterol levels without the side effects associated with current medications.
  • Heart failure study, looking at a potential new treatment to help people on ‘water tablets’ improve the way their heart pumps.
  • These studies are critical in developing targeted treatments that address the specific needs of patients with complex cardiovascular risk profiles.
