Overweight and obesity are long-term health conditions influenced by many factors, including genetics, eating patterns, physical activity, some medicines, other health conditions and a person’s environment. They can affect energy, mobility, wellbeing and everyday life, and may increase the risk of health problems such as high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol, sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease and fatty liver disease. Current management may include nutrition and physical activity support, behavioural changes, medicines and, for some people, weight-loss procedures or surgery.

This study is for adults with obesity, or overweight and at least one weight-related health condition, who have previously tried to lose weight through diet without achieving lasting results.

The study aims to compare different doses and dosing schedules of an investigational study medicine with placebo. Researchers want to learn more about its safety and whether it affects body weight, including the change in body weight after 32 weeks.

If you are eligible and choose to participate, you will be randomly assigned to receive either the investigational study medicine or placebo. 

The study medicine or placebo is given as an injection under the skin. Depending on the assigned group, injections may be given weekly, every two weeks or monthly. Study treatment continues for 52 weeks.

Participation involves approximately 16 clinic visits, beginning with screening and continuing through Week 52, followed by a phone call 60 days after the last dose. No overnight stays are required. 

Study activities may include physical examinations, measurements of weight, BMI, waist and hips, blood pressure checks, heart tracings, blood and urine tests, pregnancy tests where applicable, body composition scans, questionnaires, activity tests and use of a food-tracking application. Participants will also receive guidance about diet and physical activity.
